Film dimulai dengan urutan kredit live action, di mana sekelompok bajak laut mengambil tiket ke The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Bajak laut kemudian menyanyikan SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song. Bajak laut memasuki bioskop, dan duduk untuk menonton film.
Film ini tepat dimulai dengan situasi darurat di Krusty Krab, lengkap dengan helikopter polisi dan wartawan. Mr. Krabs menjelaskan kepada para wartawan bahwa seorang pelanggan memesan Krabby Patty dengan keju, tetapi tidak menemukan keju. Tiba-tiba, SpongeBob SquarePants, "manajer", tiba di mobil olahraga ramping. Dia memasuki Krusty Krab, ia mengambil sepotong keju dari sebuah koper penuh peralatan berteknologi tinggi, dan perlahan-lahan menempatkan keju di Krabby Patty. Hari itu diselamatkan, orang-orang mulai bersorak untuk SpongeBob. Sorakan mereka segera berganti dengan suara jam alarm SpongeBob, dan ia bangun, mengungkapkan adegan pembuka adalah mimpi.
